I was recently referred to a local sports massage therapist for a hamstring problem I was trying to solve. I emailed for an appointment. He replied right away and asked if I had a promotional coupon. I wrote that I did not and asked about availability. He had none.
Apparently he was in the middle of a promotion and the coupon folks were swamping him. He wouldn’t be able to see me for months.
I was a bit flabbergasted. While I presented him with an opportunity to receive full price for his services and given that I liked him and the massage would have been a long-term customer (see: I’ve been going to my same barber for almost 20 years), he had no time for me.
I understand his dilemma, but it didn’t stop me from going elsewhere. It seems these group buying deals are not only affecting small businesses but their potential customers, too.
